Dhanusha: Dambbar Bahadur Raut, chairperson of Bateshwar Rural Municipality, has gone absconding for 15 days throwing away Rs 8 lakh bribery cash. The working of the rural municipality is disturbed in absence of the chairperson. Chairperson Raut has absconded from clutches of a central team of CIAA (Tangal).

Locals have locked up the cabin of the chairperson, administrative officer, and planning and accounting branch demanding action against Chairperson Raut and transparently account for every development work carried out in the last three years.

DSP Makendra Mishra of Dhanusha said that the search for ‘absconding’ Raut was on. Raut being out of contact has brought the regular working of the rural municipality to a standstill. Employees show up at the office only for making attendance and they leave afterward.

Rudra Narayan Yadav, acting administrative officer of the rural municipality, has switched his phone off the next day of the incident. He has not appeared at the office yet.

The service seekers complain that Vice-Chairperson Pramila Devi Mahato, Acting Chief Administrative Officer Yadav and elected people’s representatives have not shown any interest in opening the 15-day lockout at the village municipality office. Due to their negligence, the public and service seekers are forced to reach the office and return without getting their work done.

Ram Mani Kushwaha, a local leader who initiated lockout, said, “So far, neither the vice-chairperson, nor the officials, nor the authority has shown any interest in unlocking the lockout. How long will they keep affecting public work? Better is reaching an agreement about giving every account transparently. For that, shouldn’t the vice-chairperson convene a meeting?”

Kushwaha said that they had contacted Vice-chairperson Mahato. However, Mahato expressed confusion over what to do and what not to as no letter had been received at the office of the rural municipality, he said.

Vice-Chairperson Mahato claims that she is taking initiatives to open the lockout at the office. She informed that she had a discussion with Dhanusha Chief District Officer Bandhu Prasad Bastola on Sunday in the presence of the ward chairpersons for the resumption of regular work of the rural municipality.
